ONGOING PROJECT
On December 1, 2023, Armenia successfully launched its first domestically-built satellite, Hayasat-1, into orbit aboard a SpaceX Falcon-9 launch vehicle. This significant milestone was achieved through the collaborative efforts of Bazoomq Space Research Laboratory and the Center for Scientific Innovation and Education. SYUN sponsored the testing of Hayasat-1, which was completed in the Netherlands.
Hayasat-1 marks the beginning of the larger Hayasat program, aimed at developing and launching a series of satellites to establish critical space capabilities for Armenia. This initiative will enable the country to pursue an independent space policy and conduct space-related activities.
Amidst the evolving geopolitics surrounding Armenia, achieving technological independence is crucial for national security. Bazoomq Space Research Laboratory and its partners have outlined a roadmap to develop, integrate, and validate domestic small satellite subsystems and a fully domestic CubeSat platform in support of future Government Armsat missions.
Following several Hayasat missions, Armenia will possess a fully domestic CubeSat platform, with only non-critical common components sourced globally. The Hayasat-2 mission, the first step in this ambitious program, aims to master, develop, and enhance small satellite technologies in Armenia.
The Hayasat-2 project comprises several phases, beginning with “Initial Research”. In continued collaboration with Bazoomq, SYUN has funded the first research phase, which includes:
- Collaborating with Government Departments to identify required satellite services for Armenia.
- Working with CubeSat component manufacturers to identify the best price and specifications opportunities.
- Defining the scope and architecture of Hayasat-2’s functionality.
