In every newsletter we focus on a specific project which we feel has accomplished an important task and present it as a success story.
In this newsletter we would like to stress how many months of diligent work on projects related to training in emergency first aid have paid off in today's treacherous circumstances.
For over a year SYUN has been reporting the numbers of people that were trained in various regions of Armenia. Sadly the skills and supplies they acquired are greatly in need today, because along Armenia's entire eastern border, there are injured people in need of first aid due to Azeri military attacks.
As you know we have created a functioning Emergency Response Training Center in Goris. Today round-the-clock duties are being organized and performed by volunteers and first aid instructors in this center.
Instructors are on duty not only in the training center, but also in the surrounding villages in order to be able to react and organize necessary first aid as quickly as possible, as well as help in organizing evacuations of the local population if required.

Emergency Response Training Center
Based on a decision from the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia #402-A, the program initiated by VAL foundation and sponsored by SYUN "Establishment of the Emergency Response Regional Training Center" was qualified as a charitable program.
This is a big step and it will help us to make significant progress in achieving the goal of preparing the population of Syunik and Armenia in general for emergencies.
An unused building in Goris that was formerly serving as an ambulant clinic is used as a facility for the training center. To organize first aid courses in this building it is necessary to perform some repair works. It has already been partially remodeled. Roof repairs and other works are in progress.
Two training sessions have already been held in the center. The first one, in July, for the residents of village Togh and the second one, in August, for the residents of village Kornidzor.

Armath
This project, for which SYUN collaborated with the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE), is completed and new Armath engineering laboratories in three schools, in Araks and Pshatavan villages and Vagharshapat, have not only been completely equipped, but also teachers for the mentioned laboratories have been trained and qualified. Children began the new academic year by learning and applying their knowledge fully in practice.
In Armath engineering laboratories, children aged 10-18 learn different programming languages, 3D modeling and printing, robotics, etc.

L1 Adaptive Control System Research
This is one of Instigate Robotics' projects which SYUN is funding in order to help in the development of UAVs.
ISRC (Instigate Scientific Research Center) developed its own autopilot based on L1 adaptive control theory. The L1 autopilot is promising robust and stable flights.
Copter Urur3 is a hex-copter designed for unmanned video surveillance, package transfer, etc, and it uses the adaptive autopilot based on L1 algorithm.
Research works continue to improve the quality of the autopilot and for developing more products that are much needed today for Armenia's security and development.

Terracotta Kids
From the beginning of 2022 SYUN was sponsoring three children from families of veterans, and they have been attending this wonderful daycare for one year. But now we have an addition to the group.
 Our Alex is very well, after a 2 week break, he returned to the garden quite changed. He is already a big boy, 5 years old. He is very involved in all the work of the group. Alex attends the garden very dutifully, he is one of the first to arrive every morning. 
Monte is also good, he is 4.5 years old already. He missed the garden very much and he never misses even a day now.
Astghik's mother, Tatevik, got an apartment in Artsakh this summer. She moved there with her two little girls, however they had to return to Yerevan, since Tatevik could not find a job there. Also, the situation was very unstable and dangerous. Tatevik started working and she asked if it is possible for her little one, Andrea, to go to the kindergarten with her older sister. We thought that this is a great help for the family and SYUN decided to sponsor Andrea's attendance of Terracotta Kids as well.
Now Tatevik can go to work, and the girls will receive the necessary care and knowledge and most importantly individual approach which is extremely important, when children grow up in such difficult conditions. |

RealSchool+Armath Mesh Network
RealSchool and Armath laboratories have proposed this project which is to create a mesh network in Armenia. This mesh network’s purpose is to provide interconnectivity and communications throughout Armenia by connecting 617 Armath laboratories.
The experimental setup of the mesh network in three Armath laboratories has been completed. It was planned to extend the project to include two more laboratories to the network, but due the situation in Armenia caused by military attacks, the team working on this project is now involved in establishing secure communication which is necessary for the forces defending our borders, thus postponing this project's completion. |

Projects On-demand
Today SYUN is acting in emergency mode. Although all our projects are initiated based on high necessities, now we are trying to be extremely productive and are considering only those projects that are life-saving and bring Armenia one step closer to being safe and strong.
Thus, before September 13th we were planning to furnish a school in Kert village of Artsakh. Almost everything was ready for launching the project, but now we feel that it has to be postponed and in the current situation the funds must be spent more efficiently on projects that resolve problems requiring immediate attention.
One example of such a project can be the organizing of round-the-clock duties in the Emergency Response Training Center in Goris and border villages in Syunik as mentioned in the first section of this newsletter.
We are working with the people on the ground, discussing the situation and high priority demands on a daily basis. There are many projects which we are considering and which are very important, but due to limited funds we can work only on some of them.

Even before SYUN was founded, Garik and Anna were actively involved in helping veterans of the 44 day war. They became supporters from the first day SYUN was created. Garik Mkrtchyan is a Director of Software Development at AMD and by managing a team in Armenia, he significantly contributes to the growth of the IT sector there. Anna Markosyan spends her time raising two Armenian children. She ensures that they speak, read and write Armenian and relate to Armenian history and culture.

History Corner: Andranik Ozanian |

Andranik Ozanian was an Armenian military commander, freedom fighter, and a key figure of the Armenian national liberation movement within the Ottoman Empire during the late 19th and early 20th century. He is considered one of the most famous icons of the Armenian independence struggle, dedicating most of his life to achieve national sovereignty for his nation, mostly by military means.
After the Partition of Armenia in late 1919, Andranik became one of the leading members of the Armenian resistance, fighting for the Armenian cause in the mountains of Zangezur and, after his departure from the Caucasus due to health reasons in 1921, abroad.
