Let the Hope Shape Our Future |
| |
Between two Artsakh villages Karmir Shuka and Taghavard, a playground was opened for children. The playground, dedicated to the defenders of these two villages, who died in the 2020 war, was sponsored by SYUN and built by the Ghoghanj Armenian NGO.
During the opening ceremony the initiator of the idea to build this playground, President of Ghoghanj, Diana Grigoryan told reporters from a local newspaper and a TV news "Any child, living here, must understand that he or she is not alone, "you and us" does not exist, there is only us, the determination to be united and to support each other," she said.
Several months ago, during one of Diana's many visits, she asked the children about their dream. The children dreamed of having a happy and colorful playground.
Today not only their dream is a reality, but this project brought hope to their fathers and mothers who keep our borders.

What We're Working On Now |

First Aid in Emergency Situations. Syunik
Today it is critical for our people to survive. Emergency preparedness is a basic survival skill. That is why the "First Aid in Emergency Situations" program is one of the most important projects for SYUN. From March to June within the framework of the SYUN/ «ՎԱԼ» հիմնադրամ/ "VAL" FUND joint project, 3 sessions were held in Syunik's border villages Khoznavar and Karashen, as well as in Aghavno, a gorgeous village in Berdzor region. The trainees received both theoretical and practical knowledge and they expressed their opinion about the importance and effectiveness of the training sessions. These training sessions were conducted by our second level volunteer instructors.
Another important event happened this quarter. On April 1, within the framework of the 3d ArmHighTech 2022 International Exhibition of Defense Technologies, Jean-Luc Messagier and Sylvie Moretti (France) delivered a thematic lecture on "Behavior in Extreme Conditions". Practical exercises were presented by our second level instructors, the two Annas.

Terracotta Kids
"Terracotta kids" was founded after the 44-day Artsakh war when many kids from war-affected families needed help. It is a preschool that provides rehabilitation art therapy courses to the children. In "Terracotta kids", children spend their day in a warm and safe environment. Here they learn traditional pottery and other crafts, play with toys made of natural materials, eat healthily and learn languages. This is a program which is available in Yerevan and Vanadzor.
SYUN is sponsoring three children from families of veterans, and they will be attending this wonderful daycare for one year. This month SYUN board members attended "Terracotta kids" in Yerevan. The founder of the school, Nana Manucharyan, showed us every little detail in this building that with her efforts reminds of a house from a fairy tail. We also met the kids and they were very happy to get some presents which we had brought with us.
Every day Nana brings to work her 2 month old daughter, Sara <3

L1 Adaptive Control System Research
|
While in Yerevan, we visited Instigate Robotics or ISRC (Instigate Scientific Research Center), where innovative complex engineering solutions and unmanned vehicles with custom architecture are being developed. L1 Adaptive Control System research is one of Instigate Robotics' projects which SYUN is funding in order to help in the development of UAVs. Not only L1, but all the projects that were presented to us are very impressive. We are expecting great results from this steadily progressing research. |

RealSchool+Armath Mesh Network
RealSchool and Armath laboratories have proposed this project which is to create a mesh network in Armenia. This mesh network’s purpose is to provide interconnectivity and communications throughout Armenia by connecting 617 Armath laboratories. When this project succeeds, this technology can be used to secure all communication in Armenia in case today’s infrastructure is damaged.
Due to technical reasons this project's realization has been postponed, but we hope we'll be able to share with you some of its progress in the next newsletter. |

Emergency Response Training Center
This project is the logical continuation of the “First aid in Emergency Situations. Syunik” program which has been funded by SYUN. The emergency response training center will be established in Goris. Not only regular first aid courses will be conducted in this center, but it will also serve as an emergency response hub in the region. The establishment of the center will be realized in cooperation with the state and other non-commercial organizations. The Government of The Republic of Armenia has recognized this program as charitable and makes a partial exemption from project-related costs / expenses.
Within the framework of another SYUN and VAL joint project “First aid in Emergency Situations. Syunik” by a decision of the Syunik provincial administration, an unused building in Goris that was formerly serving as an ambulant clinic was provided to the VAL Charitable Foundation on a free of charge basis for a period of one year. This period has been extended for two more years.
VAL has also received ambulance vehicles, as well as medical supplies, through other benefactors to ensure that the center is properly equipped.
To organize first aid courses in the mentioned facility it is necessary to perform some repair works in this building, purchase the necessary equipment, cover utility and administrative expenses. The plan is to complete all these works by September 15th and start training sessions in the building.

History Corner: Kingdom of Urartu |
| |
Urartu, also known as the Kingdom of Urartu or the Kingdom of Van, was a civilization which developed in the Bronze and Iron Age of ancient Armenia, Anatolia, and northwestern Iran from the 9th century BCE. Controlling territories through military might and the construction of fortresses, the kingdom boasted a lively production in the arts, especially metalwork. Surviving only two centuries, the kingdom mysteriously disappeared in the 6th century BCE and was only rediscovered as a distinct and recognizable ancient culture by excavations carried out in the 19th century CE.
